Trooper D. Arnold (D-28) attempts to stop a vehicle, the subject flees the traffic stop. Trooper S. Morris (D-23) assists and takes primary position. Both Troopers crash with a civilian involved. Trooper Arnolds Report: On December 14th, 2018 I made a traffic stop on Interstate 40 at the 276 mile marker. The suspect vehicle was a silver Honda Civic hatchback that had committed a few traffic violations which were speeding, Improper Lane Change and no License plate. Once I called my stop into Troop D Dispatch I activated my blue lights. The vehicle pulled over to the right shoulder, but straddled the lines of the Interstate/entrance ramp at the 276. I got on my car intercom multiple times advising the driver to pull to the right shoulder due to the area where he parked. Finally the suspect moved to the right shoulder and came to a stop. I got out to make a passenger side approach and headed around the backside of my unit. As I made it to my passenger side door the suspect fled the traffic stop and I advised Troop D Dispatch that I was in pursuit. Trooper Spencer Morris advised he was headed my way to assist. As I pursued the suspect vehicle, he approached the 277 mile marker and turned off all his lights and blacked out. Trooper Morris got behind the vehicle at approximately the 278 mile marker and became the primary unit and I became the secondary unit. The suspect vehicle took I-55 south towards Memphis. The suspect vehicle took exit 4 at MLK Boulevard and left the roadway in the curve continuing south in the ditch. This action caused damage to the rear bumper of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect drove across MLK Boulevard and back onto the entrance ramp to get back on I-55 southbound. I slowed down as it looked as if Trooper Morris was positioning himself for a PIT maneuver. Due to a semi-truck on the entrance ramp, Trooper Morris elected not to conduct the PIT maneuver at that location. The suspect vehicle entered back onto I-55 traveling southbound. I was catching back up to the pursuit In the inside lane of traffic. Trooper Morris was in the outside lane of traffic directly behind the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle hit the rear end of a civilian's vehicle that was driving in front of the suspect. That crash will be documented in crash report #181218480. This action caused Trooper Morris to change to the inside lane of traffic directly in front of me. Due to the evasive maneuver of Trooper Morris, I could not stop in time and struck the rear of Trooper Morris' unit. After colliding with Trooper Morris' unit my unit veered to the right striking the civilian’s vehicle. This crash will be documented in crash report #181218479. This action disabled Trooper Morris' unit, my unit as well as the civilian's vehicle. After the collision, the suspect continued traveling southbound on I-55. See Incident Report # D-12/18-537A and #D-12/18-537B. This incident caused damage to my push bumper/bumper, hood, right fender, and right back fender. #arkansas #arkansasstatepolice #dashcam #dashcam #pursuit #chase #crash #police #tvi #pit #crime #news
