On January 2, 2026, in Compton, California a Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a black Dodge Challenger after noticing the front license plate did not match the rear California plate. Instead of yielding, the driver accelerated away, leading police on a dangerous police pursuit through city streets and onto SR-91 the police chase was captured on the officers dashcam and bodycam. The vehicle reached speeds of approximately 110 mph while weaving through traffic, passing vehicles on the shoulder, and showing reckless disregard for public safety. The officer observed the suspect exit the freeway near Acacia Avenue, where the vehicle came to a stop after slamming the Dodge Challenger into a curb. under an overpass. The officer arrived shortly after the crash and was able to detain the driver without further incident. The Challenger was equipped with a fake front license plate while the registered rear plate was found in the trunk. The suspect allegedly admitted purchasing the fake plate online to avoid expired registration citations. The suspect was medically cleared at Memorial Hospital of Gardena before being booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Century Station on the following charges: Felony Evading – VC 2800.2(a) Vehicle Registration Fraud – VC 4463(a) California Highway Patrol officer involved: Officer T.
