On February 7, 2021, police in Akron, Ohio, went to the home of Charles Hicks II, 29, on a report of a domestic disturbance. Hicks at first refused to leave the home. The court filing says he "started ranting" at officers. Cops forced Hicks to the ground. One cop placed a handful of snow over Hicks’ mouth and nose multiple times, and Hicks said he was “struggling to breathe,” according to his complaint. Hicks filed an excessive-force lawsuit against the city and several Akron police officers but a federal judge dismissed it.
