On December 30, 2024, at approximately 2:11 AM, Key West police officers responded to a bar on Duval Street regarding a physical disturbance. Upon arrival, they noticed a significant crowd directing attention toward Greene Street. A bouncer approached the patrol vehicle and reported that a white male, characterized by tattoos, was wearing a black shirt with a rainbow on the back, a hat, and light-colored shorts. This individual allegedly instigated a disturbance by engaging in a physical altercation with two others outside the bar. The bouncer claimed to have seen the suspect pass by Sloppy Joe’s and head toward Greene Street. The police proceeded to Greene Street to locate the suspect. One officer observed an individual matching the description walking past a tattoo shop. The patrol vehicle was parked with lights activated, and the officers approached the male, later identified as the suspect. They informed him that several individuals, including the bouncer, alleged he had initiated a confrontation outside the bar. In response, he remarked, “OK, good for you.” During the interaction, the officers noted multiple signs of intoxication. The suspect's speech was slurred, and he had difficulty maintaining his balance, swaying from side to side. A strong odor of alcohol was evident on his breath. When asked for identification, he provided his military ID, lit a cigarette, and claimed to weigh 150 pounds, denying any involvement in fights. The officer informed him that multiple witnesses reported seeing him initiate the altercation, to which he replied again, “Good for you.” At this point, another officer arrived to assist. As they attempted to place handcuffs on the suspect for further investigation, he became defensive and resisted. After a brief struggle, he was successfully handcuffed and placed in the rear of the patrol vehicle. Another bouncer then approached, providing video footage captured by the bar's front entrance camera. The footage showed the suspect holding what appeared to be a beer bottle while facing the bouncer, who was seen indicating that he was being instructed to leave the premises. The suspect attempted to place the bouncer in a headlock, but the bouncer managed to escape with help from unidentified individuals who intervened. Following this altercation, the suspect was seen drinking the beer while staring at the bouncer. The police returned to speak with the bouncer, whose account was consistent with the footage. The bouncer indicated that the suspect engaged in a physical altercation shortly after the couple intervened, but that couple had already left the scene by the time the police arrived. As the police gathered further information, the bouncer expressed his intention to pursue battery charges against the suspect. Based on the investigation and the security camera footage, the police concluded that the suspect was the aggressor, having intentionally grabbed the bouncer.
