On Jan. 20, 2025, PCSO Search & Rescue deputies responded to reports of a rock climber who had fallen 40 feet in a remote climbing area east of Superior. The injured climber suffered a broken leg and landed in a U-shaped rock outcropping, making access extremely difficult. Using our Huey helicopter, a BORSTAR Border Patrol paramedic was lowered 270 feet into the canyon to provide immediate medical care and then extract him. The climber was then transported to Superior Fire and later flown to a valley hospital for further treatment.
