On March 19, 2023, at approximately 6:34 AM, officers responded to an alarm activation at a store on Duval Street. An employee had received a notification on their phone from the alarm company. Upon arrival, law enforcement found the store's front door ajar and were alerted to a possible break-in. Upon inspection, an open door at the store's front was noted. Law enforcement officers discovered signs of forced entry, with the front doors forcibly opened, damaging the floor-mounted lock. Inside, two showcases had been forcefully accessed, with display boxes scattered around. After ensuring the premises were secure, two storekeepers were allowed to enter to assess the situation. Video footage provided by the storekeepers revealed a male suspect wearing specific attire breaking into the building. Despite a search of the surrounding area, no matching individual was found. However, a male resembling the suspect in the video was apprehended by Officer Mitchell after a brief encounter. The male, later identified as Joseph, was arrested, searched, and found with personal belongings. He admitted to being in the vicinity of the store during the incident but opted to remain silent and requested legal representation despite being read his rights.
