Officers from the Special Operations Unit were on patrol near St. Mary’s, close to Seven Mile, around 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2024, when they observed a car obstructing a sidewalk. The officers pulled in front of the vehicle with their emergency lights activated and used the cruiser’s spotlight to illuminate the car. They exited the cruiser and approached the vehicle with their firearms drawn. Police reported that both occupants of the car appeared to be reaching toward their legs in the center console area. Despite being ordered multiple times to immediately raise their hands, they did not comply. At one point, the driver reversed, colliding with a vehicle parked in a driveway. An officer fired into the car as the driver attempted to flee, dragging another officer in the process. The driver, struck in the chest, then drove forward, hitting and dragging Officer A. In response, another officer, identified as Officer B, fired additional shots at the rear of the vehicle. The 18-year-old driver continued driving but abandoned the car a few blocks away and called 911. Officers arrived at the location, provided medical assistance, and transported the driver to the hospital, where he was treated and later released. The passenger, who initially fled the scene, subsequently turned himself in to the police but was released pending further investigation. The injured officer was taken to the hospital and has since been discharged. An administrative review is underway to assess whether the officers' actions were consistent with their training and departmental policies. 0:00 - Police dashboard footage 0:40 - Teen's car runs over officer 1:02 - Officer 1 bodycam 2:12 - Officer 2 bodycam 2:47 - Officer 3 bodycam 4:00 - Wounded teen calls 911 5:18 - Medical aid Disclaimer: The following content contains graphic scenes of violence that may be disturbing to some viewers.
