Pine Bluff officers justified in the fatal shooting of Jeremy Lawrence when he pointed a gun at them Pine Bluff, AR - Around 10:23 p.m., Pine Bluff officers responded to shots fired call in the area of 32nd Avenue and Plum Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings and magazines at the scene. During further searching of the scene, a blue SUV entered the perimeter of the crime scene, ignoring all commands to stop. One officer would go on to observe a passenger in the backseat, later identified as Jeremy Lawrence, holding a firearm in his lap. Lawrence would then yell "Go" as the vehicle fled the scene and nearly struck an officer. The fleeing of the vehicle would lead three police vehicles on a high speed pursuit, where the SUV ran two stop signs and exceeded 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. As the vehicle slowed down, Lawrence exited the vehicle wearing a black mask and blue latex gloves, while carrying a Draco-style pistol. Officers reported that Lawrence had aimed his firearm at them before running away between nearby houses. He was instructed to drop his weapon, but ignored officers' commands. They chased Lawrence through multiple yards, across 27th Avenue, and into a wooded area between 27th and 28th Avenues. Officers report that Lawrence stopped running once in the wooded area, turned to face them, and lifted his firearm from his waist in a way that they felt indicated he was about to fire. In response, officers began firing their service weapons at Lawrence until he indicated that he was surrendering. The officers approached Lawrence and placed him in handcuffs before they began administering first aid by applying tourniquets. Lawrence was transported to the Jefferson County Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
