The collision occurred on Chestnut Ridge Road near the New York state line. When he arrived, he spoke with the Toyota's driver, later identified as 27-year-old Sage Petersen. He smelled alcohol and saw that her eyes were droopy, her speech was slurred, and she struggled to keep her balance. He also noticed vomit on her pants. Because smoke was coming from the Toyota, Officer Wynohradnyk told Sage to get out. He asked whether she had been drinking. At first, she said she had consumed three drinks. She later admitted to having five or six drinks at the Pearl River Saloon in Pearl River, New York, just across the state line. Officer Robert Klecha and Sergeant Jeffrey Hanna arrived to help. Klecha asked Wynohradnyk if he wanted to handle the DWI case, and he agreed. Officer Klecha then tried to conduct standardized field sobriety tests. He began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and told Sage to follow the tip of his pen. She could not understand his instructions. Klecha decided not to continue the tests and determined that Sage should be taken to a hospital. Members of the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived and evaluated Sage before placing her on a stretcher. The officers chose Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey, for further care. Klecha rode with Sage in the ambulance, where she vomited several times. After arriving at Valley Hospital, Klecha turned off his body-worn camera. He contacted Sergeant Eric Robalino, who then reached out to Judge Brady for a warrant allowing a blood draw. The judge approved the warrant, and medical staff drew Sage's blood and sealed the sample in a container. Wynohradnyk arrived later, and the two officers took the samples to the Montvale Police Department. They entered the evidence into the Beast system and stored it in a temporary refrigerator. As of September 16, 2023, the blood test results were still pending and would be added after the lab completed its report. Klecha issued Sage summonses for operating under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, having an open container of alcohol, driving across marked lanes, and delaying traffic. She was also given a court date in the Pascack Joint Municipal Court. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
