A routine inquiry quickly escalates when an officer spots unexpected residue. Responding to a report of a suspicious person, a deputy provided a ride to an individual heading to a residence. Upon arrival, a woman was observed exiting a Chevy Tahoe. The officer noted potential signs of impairment and, after asking about alcohol consumption, observed a distinct white powder residue in her nostrils when she looked up. Despite her denial of impairment, the deputy initiated standardized field sobriety exercises. The woman failed multiple exercises, including the Modified Romberg Balance Test, Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand, demonstrating significant indicators of impairment. Consequently, she was placed under arrest for physical control of a motor vehicle.
