On September 12, 2024, in Bowie, Maryland, Police Sergeant Robert Warrington encountered a vehicle stopped on the left shoulder of Collington Road near the John Hanson Highway exit. A passenger who had exited the vehicle to retrieve his hat that had blown away was returning to the SUV where his girlfriend and children were waiting. As the man passed by Warrington, he seemed to be holding his stomach with one hand and a white cloth or T-shirt, which appeared bloodstained, with the other. "Are you here to help her?" Warrington asked. "Nah, she's taking me to the hospital," the man responded. Shortly after, Warrington discharged his firearm, striking a passing minivan. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Bowie Police Chief Dwayne Preston issued a statement that read in part, “I support the grand jury’s independent objective process. Sgt. Warrington will be suspended without pay.” Warrington is a 12-year veteran of the Bowie Police Department. He faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and reckless endangerment. #police #maryland #cops
