Officers were dispatched to a local park after receiving a report of a suspicious individual. Upon arrival, police met with a mother who stated that an unknown male had followed her young son into a single-occupancy public restroom. The child reported that while he was inside, the man opened the door, backed out, and then re-entered, approaching him closely and causing significant alarm. The child managed to distract the individual and escape the restroom to alert his mother. Officers soon located the suspect near his vehicle and began questioning him about his presence at the park. During the interview, officers immediately noticed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, swaying, and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect exhibited erratic behavior, fluctuating between calm and highly agitated states. After admitting to consuming several beers, officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests, which the individual failed to complete successfully. When informed he was being placed under arrest for driving under the influence, the suspect refused to comply with verbal commands and physically resisted officers' attempts to secure his hands behind his back. Law enforcement utilized a takedown maneuver to safely place him into handcuffs. Subsequent testing at the police department revealed a breath alcohol concentration of .245. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
