On February 17, 2024, a LAPD police vehicle equipped with a license plate reader detected a possible stolen vehicle. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled down a residential street and crashed into another occupied vehicle. The suspect fled on foot and scaled a wall. Pursuing officers were unable or unwilling to follow the suspect over a wall. A short time later, the suspect was apprehended by a LAPD canine unit. However, when officers went to handcuff the suspect, he fled again and made it over another wall. An LAPD helicopter was overhead and tracked the suspect. Officers caught up with the suspect a short time later and he was taken into custody.
