On March 28, 2023, Officers from the Smith County Texas Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on 29 year old Cody Voss. Voss, who was driving without functioning tail lights, pulled into the driveway of his friend, 37 year old Derek Phillips. Both Cody and Derek immediately resisted the officer's request for identification and general information, which quickly escalated into events that would lead to both being arrested and charged with a variety of crimes. After both were placed in custody, it was revealed that Derek's parents were both elected officials in Smith County, his father Terry serving as a Precinct Captain and his mother Karen as a County Clerk. Upon arriving at the jail, both Derek and Cody were booked and charged. Derek was charged with Resisting Arrest and Interfering with Public Duty, while Cody was charged with Driving without a Taillight and Failure to Identify to a Peace officer. Derek was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to 30 days in jail and 18 months of probation. There is currently no information on the outcome of Cody's case. #bodycam #policebodycamera #policebodycam #texaspolice #sovereigncitizens #politician #criminaljustice #assault #resistingarrest #texasjustice #sovereigncitizen
