An officer notices a vehicle parked in a Walmart space reserved for law enforcement. When the driver sees the patrol car, he immediately leaves the spot and pulls into a nearby gas station. What could have ended as a simple warning quickly escalates. The officer reports smelling marijuana and orders the driver to step out of the vehicle. The driver refuses, calls his mother, and insists he has done nothing wrong. As officers attempt to gain control of the situation, the vehicle suddenly moves while an officer is partially inside. A Taser is deployed, and the driver is taken to the ground and placed into custody. The driver later admits to heroin use and complains of chest pain. He is charged with multiple felony offenses, some of which are later dismissed. He ultimately pleads no contest to resisting and is sentenced to prison.
