A minor traffic collision on the Gold Coast spiralled into a violent roadside struggle when an off-duty Queensland police officer confronted a disabled driver, ending in allegations of an unlawful assault and a court battle over what really happened. Body-worn camera footage and CCTV vision captured the aftermath of the confrontation between Constable James Michael Clark and Sachin Shetty, a man with a prosthetic leg, moments after tensions boiled over at Clear Island Waters. Prosecutors allege Clark struck Mr Shetty in the groin before tackling him to the ground, while the officer claims he was defending himself from an aggressive outburst. Witness accounts, medical evidence, and Clark’s own recorded interview paint vastly different versions of the clash, raising questions about proportional force, credibility, and whether the officer’s actions were justified. UPDATE: Former constable James Michael Clark, 39, was found guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court of common assault and assault occasioning bodily harm following a collision with Sachin Shetty at Clear Island Waters on 26 July 2024.
