It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 12:10 a.m. on January 26, 2025, Deputy Christopher Olin from the Whitman County Sheriff's Office spotted a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta blow through a stop sign at the corner of NE Merman Drive and NE Terre View Drive. He pulled up behind the car and hit his lights for a stop. The driver turned out to be 21-year-old Daphne. She explained to the deputy that she was taking her friends home from the bar as their sober driver. While chatting with her, Olin caught a whiff of booze. He also saw signs she might be impaired. He asked what she'd had to drink. At first, she said nothing. When he had her step out of the car, she owned up to a small amount earlier that night. But she swore it wasn't much. Suspecting trouble, he asked her to do some roadside sobriety checks. The first check was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Olin spotted all six signs of impairment there. Next came the Walk and Turn. Daphne missed heel-to-toe steps and botched the turn. For the One Leg Stand, she didn't lift her foot right and dropped it too soon. After those tests, he offered a preliminary breath test. It showed her blood alcohol at 0.113%. That's over the 0.08% limit. With the stop sign violation, the alcohol smell, her shaky performance, and that breath result, Olin arrested her for DUI. He first took her to the Pullman Police Department to handle paperwork. There, she agreed to a full breath test. The first one read 0.117% initial and 0.114% confirmed. The second hit 0.119% initial and 0.118% confirmed. Once done, Olin drove her to Whitman County Jail.
