#bodycam #homearrest #fourthamendment Palm Bay, Florida, September 23, 2025. A day after a traffic stop sent a driver to jail for methamphetamine, officers return to a residence for the passenger who was let go. She is inside a fenced yard that is not her home, with roughly a dozen other people, and the officers refuse to step past the gate. Instead they ask whether she is being held against her will, remind her that nobody can stop her moving about freely, and wait on the sidewalk. Seconds after she walks out the arrest is announced, she pulls away toward the closing gate, and a single possession charge becomes two. Can police talk a suspect out of a home they have no warrant to enter? Does a roadside release in exchange for one phone call obligate anyone to anything? And when a frightened woman explains her own drug activity to her mother from the back of a patrol car, is that statement admissible with no warning ever given?
