Police Report: On 4/27/2024 at approximately 4:38 AM, I observed a black sedan traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on US 98 and Winter Lake Rd. The vehicle appeared to be traveling at 90 mph. I attempted to catch up to the vehicle at US 98 and S Lake Parker Rd. I paced the vehicle at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. The vehicle made a lane change from the left lane to the right lane of US 98 at the intersection. The intersection for northbound US 98 had a red stop light. The vehicle came to a stop partially in the right lane and right turn lane on US 98. When the light turned green, the vehicle accelerated northbound. The vehicle almost drove into the grass shoulder of US 98 and made a harsh correction. I initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle pulled over into a parking lot at S Ingraham Dr and Main St. As I came to a stop behind the vehicle, the driver turned off his headlights and accelerated at a fast rate. The vehicle fled east on Main St. I activated my sirens, as my lights were already active, and initiated a pursuit. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed, running the red light at Main St and S Lake Parker Rd. The vehicle fled north on S Lake Parker Rd, then made a right turn, running the red light at Memorial Blvd westbound. The vehicle almost crashed, drove on the wrong side of the roadway, and drove over the raised median to continue eastbound. I observed ahead of the pursuit that there were multiple first responders west of our location at a roadblock, which appeared to be a traffic crash scene. The vehicle was heading towards the first responders, and to bring the pursuit to an end before the fleeing suspect drove through an active roadblock, I performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) on the vehicle. The vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned onto its driver side. Initially, I did not realize that the vehicle struck a power pole and overturned. It appeared to drive through the bushes and into the business parking lot. I made a U-turn to drive towards where the vehicle had run off the roadway. I mistakenly conducted a stop on an unrelated citizen in the area who appeared to be driving the suspect vehicle. I commanded the citizen to exit his vehicle, which he complied with. He calmly advised me that he saw me PIT the suspect vehicle and that it hit a power pole, and he pointed in the direction of the suspect vehicle. I graciously apologized to the citizen and headed toward the suspect’s vehicle. When I approached the vehicle, the driver was still in the driver's seat with his seatbelt on. He was briefly unresponsive, and I attempted to free him from the vehicle as he was entrapped. The driver regained consciousness and advised me that his arm was stuck. With the help of Lakeland Police Officers who arrived on the scene, we were able to flip the vehicle over to its right side up. EMS arrived on the scene and transported the driver to Lakeland Regional Hospital. I identified the driver via his Florida Driver's License as Eric Sanjavier Perez. The vehicle license plate was FL tag Z2664LY. Mr. Perez was read his Miranda rights at 7:30 AM. I placed Mr. Perez under arrest for FL Statute 316.1925(3)(a), fleeing and eluding, at 7:50 AM. Trooper Edgar Aponte #1848 stayed at Lakeland Regional with Mr. Perez while I left the scene. #pitmaneuver #policechase #florida ✅ This video was obtained through Public Records Requests.
