Palm Beach County, Florida – On September 14, 2024, police responded to reports of a possible drunk driver traveling the wrong way on the roadway. While officers were responding, a pickup truck turned directly into oncoming traffic and nearly collided head-on with a patrol vehicle, forcing the officer to take evasive action to avoid a crash. The officer initiated a traffic stop at a nearby plaza and made contact with the driver, who showed multiple signs of impairment, including slurred speech, confusion, glassy eyes, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. During the investigation, an empty beer bottle reportedly fell from the driver’s door as he exited the vehicle. Officers also located multiple unopened alcoholic beverages inside the truck. A DUI unit arrived on scene to continue the investigation. The driver declined to participate in field sobriety exercises and was taken into custody. According to police, he was charged with fourth or subsequent DUI, possession of an open container in a motor vehicle, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
