On July 14, 2024, officers encountered a sovereign citizen during a traffic stop for a missing vehicle tag. The suspect refused to provide proper registration, claiming it was unnecessary and citing sovereign citizen beliefs. Despite holding a valid South Carolina license and an American passport, they insisted they were “traveling” rather than driving. Due to inconsistencies and a PO box address, officers determined an arrest was necessary. After refusing multiple commands to exit the vehicle, force was used.
