It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: It was late, 11:37 PM on August 1, 2024. Officer Timothy Donovan patrolled near East South and Central Avenues. A white BMW flew down Central Avenue. It was a 2016, 2-door model. The BMW ignored the red light. It sped southward. The driver went down Ross Place. He turned on his lights to stop a car. This happened near Carleton Road. But the other driver didn't stop right away. Patrolman Donovan stepped out of his car. He told the driver not to move. She was stopped in front of a house. She ignored him. She drove into the driveway. She stopped behind the house. Donovan walked up to her car. He told her to turn it off. He asked for her license and registration. Sergeant Gill and officers Barham, Marlow, and Picciano arrived to help. The driver was Klara. She couldn't find all her papers. Officer Donovan smelled alcohol. He thought Klara was drunk. He asked her to get out of the car. She was asked to do sobriety tests. But before the tests, Klara confessed. She admitted to drinking before driving. Patrolman Picciano first checked Klara's eyes. He watched her eyes move from side to side. Her eyes jerked instead of moving smoothly. They twitched at the far side. The twitching started before her eyes moved too far. Next, Patrolman Barham told Klara to walk a line. She didn't touch heel to toe with each step. She also forgot to turn after nine steps. Finally, Klara tried to stand on one foot. She didn't lift her foot right. She didn't count in the right order. Klara struggled to keep her balance. Klara got pulled over for a traffic violation. She didn't listen to the police. She admitted to drinking alcohol. Klara also failed the sobriety test. The officer arrested her for driving under the influence. Patrolman Donovan took Klara to the police station. They needed to process her. Her car was impounded. John's Law requires a 12-hour hold. Sergeant Richard Gill met her at the station. He told her about her Miranda rights. Then he read the rules for drivers. She said yes to a breath test. But she could not give enough breath. She tried many times. The police charged her with refusal. Klara was processed and then released. Her friend signed a warning form for her. This allowed Klara to await her court date. The hearing will be in Westfield Municipal Court. The police gave Klara many tickets. She got a ticket for drunk driving. Klara also failed to stop at a traffic device. She had no proof of car insurance. Plus, she did not listen to the officer's orders. Klara's car also lacked a front license plate. She didn't turn on her car's inside light when asked. She received tickets for careless and reckless driving. Klara failed to yield for an emergency vehicle.
