A suspected DUI stop in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, takes an unexpected turn when former Cranston mayoral candidate Maria Bucci repeatedly challenges the officer and asks, “Do you know who I am?” This police bodycam captures the field sobriety investigation, repeated interruptions, references to law-enforcement connections, and the arrest that followed. Bucci was arrested shortly after midnight on December 18, 2025, after an East Greenwich officer reported observing her vehicle swerving on Division Street. During the roadside investigation, officers attempted to administer field sobriety tests while Bucci repeatedly interrupted the instructions, referenced relatives in law enforcement, and made several statements that later received widespread attention. The case did not ultimately result in a DUI conviction. The DUI charge was dismissed in January 2026 after Bucci pleaded guilty to a Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal charge of refusing to submit to a chemical test. Court records reported 20 hours of community service, a 30-day driver’s-license suspension, alcohol education, more than $900 in fines, and six months of ignition-interlock use. Following the case, Bucci issued a public statement saying she took responsibility for her actions and was deeply sorry. She apologized to family, friends, and colleagues and said she had personally apologized to the East Greenwich Police chief.
