Eryn Bonner, a 21-year-old Arizona State University senior and cheerleader, was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors following a viral July 19, 2026, confrontation with Tempe police on Mill Avenue The case returned to national attention in early October 2026 after the city of Tempe criminally charged Eryn Bonner with misdemeanor counts following an initial reluctance by county prosecutors to pursue felony charges. The viral video of the late-night arrest sparked widespread public debate regarding police use of force after an officer was seen shoving and restraining Bonner against a bicycle. While police claim she interfered with an arrest and struck an officer multiple times, her legal representation contends the force used was excessive and the charges are vindictive.
