On Thanksgiving Day, Lakewood Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident. Officer Pickens made contact with the 38-year-old driver of the at-fault vehicle. He immediately noticed the smell of alcohol coming from the woman. When he confronted her about it, she deflected the question by attempting to change the subject. Seconds later, he asked the woman point-blank if she had been drinking and she said no. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which resulted in her being arrested for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). Officer Pickens asked his dispatcher to check to see if the woman had prior OVI convictions. The police report indicates she had a conviction in 2011 and 2022. She was transported to the Lakewood Police Station, where she submitted to a breath alcohol test. The result was 0.222% BAC. Her case is still open and her next court date is scheduled for May 16, 2025. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
