On January 23, 2022, Des Moines officers patrolling Court Avenue encountered a woman needing assistance but were unexpectedly assaulted when she punched one officer in the groin. Attempts to de-escalate her erratic behavior failed as she yelled, resisted arrest, and kicked officers during the process. Despite being restrained and transported to the station, her disruptive actions continued, leading to charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, public intoxication, and assault on a police officer.
