A fight between two former best friends took a tragic turn and ultimately led to a guilty plea and a three-year prison sentence. On March 26, 2023, 17-year-old Halia Culbertson died following a physical altercation involving 20-year-old Bryanna Barozzini outside a smoke shop in northeast Columbus, Ohio. Barozzini was initially facing murder charges but later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement. Her defense argued that she acted in self-defense, while prosecutors acknowledged that Culbertson was the primary aggressor during the initial confrontation. On July 11, 2024, Judge Mark Serrott sentenced Barozzini to three years in prison, followed by three years of post-release control. Before sentencing, Barozzini expressed remorse for what happened. Culbertson's family, however, strongly criticized the sentence.
