Christmas Eve traffic stop leads to field sobriety tests, a DUI arrest—and a handcuff slip. During the early morning hours of December 24, 2022 (Christmas Eve), Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies observed a vehicle driving erratically on Caroline Street in Milton, Florida. Deputies initiated a traffic stop near Zaxby’s. The driver, Alexis Porter (24), was asked whether she had been drinking. Deputies noted indicators consistent with impairment, including confusion, slurred speech, watery eyes, and poor coordination. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, including: Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) Walk-and-Turn One-Leg Stand Based on the totality of observations and performance on the exercises, the driver was arrested for DUI. After being secured in the patrol vehicle, she managed to slip out of her handcuffs while deputies handled the vehicle and property. Deputies attempted to arrange a lawful pickup for the vehicle; it was ultimately towed, and she was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail for processing.
