During the early morning hours (2:00 AM) of September 19th, 2022, Officers of Ocean Township Police Department (NJ) responded to a report of harassment at which time the reporting female stated she was being followed by a male whom she believed to be a police impersonator. The female told officers she had just gotten off work and while headed home, she believed she was being followed by another vehicle. She stated she made several turns which did not make sense which the described vehicle had also made. The female stated she eventually made sharp turns, sped up significantly and after creating distance from the other vehicle, had parked in an apartment complex and turned off her vehicle and lights. The vehicle slowly drove around the area before pulling up next to her vehicle on her driver’s side and parking. The male then asked if she was okay before stating he was a “cop.” The male reportedly threatened to charge the female with a “DUI” prompting her to ask him for his badge. She then stated she was calling the police at which time he fled the area. While on the phone with police dispatch, she provided a vehicle description with a partial registration. Ocean Township PD later observed the vehicle in question and a motor vehicle stop was conducted. Officers spoke with the driver who matched the description entirely. After the male was vague and unwilling to speak with police without a lawyer, officers conducted a “show-up” in which they brought the female victim to their location to confirm the male in question was who she observed. The male was positively identified and subsequently arrested. The female victim later responded to police headquarters at which time she produced a formal statement. The male, identified by police as Ahmed Agiz, was charged with impersonating a police officer and harassment. Charges were placed on a warrant and Mr. Agiz was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institute. Mr. Agiz’s vehicle was later seized. ______________________________________________ All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.
