Trooper C. Dunham (C-31) attempts to stop a speeding vehicle in Blytheville. The suspect flees and was immediately stopped with a TVI. Police Report: On Friday, December 27, 2024, at approximately 11:03 pm, I, Trooper Chris Dunham, was on saturated patrol of US 61 when I observed a black Chevrolet Impala on US 61 near Hardin St. in Blytheville traveling 48 miles per hour in a posted 35 mile per hour zone. I turned around and activated my emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop for the violation. I was able to catch up to the vehicle as it turned onto Highland St. from US 61. While behind the vehicle, the driver turned into a parking lot on Highland St. and began “slow rolling” briefly before accelerating across the parking lot and began actively fleeing at approximately 11:04:22 pm. I activated my emergency siren and began giving chase as the vehicle exited the parking lot onto Broadmoor Blvd. before quickly turning north onto US 61. As the vehicle began turning north, with no other traffic present, I was able to perform a successful Tactical Vehicle Intervention(TVI) at approximately 11:04:38 pm. As a result of the TVI, the vehicle left the roadway left, becoming stuck in ruts in the grassy roadside in front of the address of 600 Broadmoor Blvd., causing approximately $2,400 in damage to the yard. As the vehicle became stuck, I observed three black males exit the vehicle and begin fleeing on foot in a northwestern direction from my location. Due to the number of offenders and lack of immediate assistance, I chose to stay with the vehicle and not pursue on foot at that time. As other units were arriving on scene, I observed a plastic grocery bag in the roadway that was dry, with no debris, and was apparent that it was recently placed in that location. Later, upon further inspection, I observed the substance in the bag to be suspected methamphetamine. With additional units, the vehicle was cleared where I observed suspected methamphetamine throughout the vehicle. It appeared as if while fleeing, the suspected attempted to destroy the suspected methamphetamine, but in the process spilled the substance throughout the vehicle. Several locations were canvased, but no suspects were located at that time. Due to the large amount of loose evidence in the vehicle, Blytheville Police Department/ 2nd DTF Agent Seth Rounsavall was called, and it was decided that the vehicle would be taken to the DTF Office for processing. Reliable Recovery was called to the scene and towed the vehicle to the Blytheville DTF Office. While processing the vehicle, Agent Rounsavall was able to collect approximately 14 ounces of the suspected methamphetamine, but due to the carpeted floors, some substance was unable to be collected. Agent Rounsavall also located several bags containing a total of approximately 5 ounces of suspected marijuana, as well as 1 iPhone, 1 Android phone, and a digital scale with residue. It should be noted that a birth certificate belonging to Damien Davis was also found in the trunk of the vehicle in a backpack. After the vehicle was processed, Reliable Recovery was later called to regain possession of the vehicle. All evidence was turned over to Agent Rounsavall. On December 28, 2024, at approximately 10:47 am, the registered owner, Jerome Colley, Jr. contacted the Blytheville Police Department, reporting the vehicle as stolen. Colley’s report states that he arrived home around 10pm, left the vehicle’s doors unlocked and keys under the driver’s seat. Colley reported the only item of value left in the vehicle was his “second cell phone”. On December 29, 2024, I was contacted by Sgt. Cade Liles of the Blytheville Police Department in reference to information he received, possibly related to this incident. Sgt. Liles relayed that he was told that on the night of December 27th , 3 black males were in McAdoo’s Bar in Blytheville and were bragging to staff that they had “a pound of dope” coming into town they were going to pick up. The bars owner stated she had the males on camera while they were in the establishment.
