On July 2, 2025, a Highway Patrolman in Del Norte County attempted a traffic stop on a green Dodge van with expired registration as it turned onto Humboldt Road from State Street in the Bertsch Tract Neighborhood. The driver refused to pull over and sped off starting a police chase reaching speeds over 70 mph while driving recklessly down Humboldt Road. He then turned northbound onto Highway 101, passing cars and gaining distance from the officer. The van pulled into the Harbor, trying to evade the police, but the officer made a quick U-turn and located the van at the stop sign at Highway 101 and Anchor Way and successfully arrested the driver without further incident. The Driver was identified as Michael H.
