On October 4th, 2025, at approximately 3:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to a restaurant in reference to a reported theft. Dispatch advised that an employee said a white male wearing a long-sleeved sweatshirt, orange swim trunks, and a white baseball cap had left without paying a bill totaling $93.06. The employee told officers the man had been seated at the bar and left without providing a card or indicating he was leaving. The individual had given the employee his phone number and later called and texted, stating he would return in about forty minutes to pay the bill. Officers canvassed the surrounding area and were advised that management had seen the man walking nearby. Officers located the subject a short time later and detained him for identification. Dispatch was asked to check for warrants, but no record was found for the name or date of birth he provided. The man told officers he had been at the restaurant and was walking to retrieve his credit card so he could return and pay. He said he was staying at a nearby hotel and also had a card saved on his phone that could be used for payment. Officers transported him back to the restaurant to settle the bill. When they arrived, management refused to accept the payment after learning he only had a photo of a credit card and no physical card or identification. Officers advised they would transport him to his hotel to retrieve the card and his driver’s license. While officers attempted to confirm his information, the subject stated he had done nothing wrong and suddenly ran from the scene. He was pursued and taken into custody after a brief struggle.
