On February 25, 2024, Stow Police Officer Williams noticed a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the local high school. When he pulled up to the vehicle, he noticed that the engine was running and the driver was passed out behind the wheel. When he opened the driver's door, he was greeted by a barking dog who was protecting the 23-year-old driver. The woman eventually woke up and admitted to consuming alcohol at a local bar. She also stated she was living in her car and was trying to sleep off her impairment. Because she was sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle with the engine running, she was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was subsequently arrested for having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Open containers of alcohol were also discovered in the vehicle. Officers then spent several minutes trying to determine what to do with the vehicle and the woman's dog. She stated that she knew no one in town and had no money for a hotel. A supervisor decided that the vehicle could be left at the high school and the dog was taken to the police station. After submitting to a breath test and receiving citations for her offenses, she was taken to a detox center in Akron, Ohio. No word on what happened to the dog. The woman's charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
