The Ogle County Sheriff's Office has released their critical incident update concerning the Jonathon Gounaris case. Ogle County State’s Attorney Mike Rock has filed Attempted First Degree Murder charges against Jonathon Gounaris (DOB 5/13/1992) following an incident that left three Ogle County law enforcement officers injured. The charges stem from a 12-count information filed in connection with the shooting on June 12, 2024, when officers responded to a residence in Lost Nation after reports of a suicidal threat. Gounaris faces multiple charges, including 4 counts of Attempt First Degree Murder, 3 counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, 3 counts of Aggravated Battery, and 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card. According to authorities, upon entering the residence, officers and the suspect sustained gunshot wounds. An investigation conducted by the Illinois State Police was subsequently reviewed by the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office. Attempt First Degree Murder is classified as a Class X Felony in Illinois, carrying a potential sentence of 20-80 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 3 years of Mandatory Supervised Release. Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Battery also carry Class X Felony charges, with potential sentences ranging from 10-60 years. Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, a Class 3 Felony, carries a sentence of 2-5 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 6 months of Mandatory Supervised Release. Gounaris has been arrested on a no bond warrant and is set to appear in the Ogle County Judicial Center on June 20, 2024. -the suspect knew the police were there. They had been at the property for ages talking to him and putting a phone inside to establish clear communication. They didnt just turn up and raid the house. I know it looks like that though-
