On May 28, 2025, a California Highway Patrol traffic stop in Oakland, California, developed into a dangerous high-speed pursuit that ended in a devastating fatal crash. CHP officers located an Infiniti G35 in a parking lot near 102nd Avenue and International Boulevard. The vehicle was reportedly wanted in connection with an earlier felony-evading incident involving the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. When officers attempted to stop the Infiniti, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. CHP officers pursued the vehicle briefly before discontinuing the ground pursuit because of the driver’s dangerous speed and reckless behavior. A CHP aircraft continued tracking the Infiniti from above as it traveled through Oakland streets and nearby freeways at speeds approaching 100 mph. The driver eventually parked near the 1800 block of Fifth Avenue. As CHP officers approached, he allegedly returned to the Infiniti and fled again. Moments later, the Infiniti collided with a minivan, injuring its occupants, before continuing away from the scene. CHP officers again discontinued the ground pursuit. As the Infiniti approached East 21st Street and 12th Avenue, crossed into opposing traffic and lost control. The vehicle struck a tree, a parked car and a fire hydrant before striking two pedestrians. One of those pedestrians was Dr. Marvin L. Boomer Jr., a beloved educator, mentor and community advocate at Castlemont High School. Dr. Boomer was pronounced dead at the scene. His partner was injured but survived. Dr. Boomer had served the Castlemont High School community for eight years, first as a mathematics teacher and later as a College and Career Pathways Coach. Following the crash, the driver allegedly removed the Infiniti’s rear license plate and fled on foot. California Highway Patrol officers located and arrested him nearby. The driver was arrested and booked in the Alameda County Jail on the following charges: 192(C)(1) - Vehicular Manslaughter W/Gross Negligence 20001(A) - Hit And Run Resulting In Injury 20002(A) - Hit And Run Resulting In Property Damage 2800.2(A - Evasion - Wanton Disregard for Safety This video is presented for news reporting, public-interest documentation, education and police transparency. It is also presented in remembrance of Dr. Marvin L. Boomer Jr. and the lasting impact he made on his students and the Oakland community.
