On February 13, 2024, Akron Police officers were conducting routine patrol when they observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Home Ave at an excessive speed, surpassing the surrounding traffic flow. Upon noticing this, the officers promptly turned around, activated their overhead lights and sirens, and proceeded south to catch up with the speeding vehicle. As they approached the scene, they observed the suspect's vehicle in the opposing lane of travel. Subsequently, upon arrival, the driver of the Jeep fled on foot in an attempt to evade capture. During the apprehension of the suspect, he voluntarily disclosed to the officers the presence of two pistols inside the car, unprompted by any questioning. Upon returning to the accident site, the Akron Police discovered two loaded firearms on the passenger side floorboard, easily accessible to the suspect while driving. Additionally, three small clear plastic baggies containing a white rocky substance were found in the interior right coat pocket. When questioned about the substance, the suspect admitted it was cocaine, a statement corroborated by a positive field test. The suspect faced multiple charges including Having Weapons Under Disability, Improper Handling of Firearms in a Vehicle, Possession of Cocaine, Obstructing Official Business, and Open Container. Additionally, citations were issued for Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Hit and Run, and Failure to Control. The suspect was subsequently transported to Summit County Jail. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
