It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 12:55 PM on July 5, 2023, Officer Nicola Costagliola from the Neptune Township Police was patrolling in plain clothes near 10th Avenue and Atkins Avenue. He spotted a 2005 Nissan driving badly. When the officer started to follow, the driver sped up quickly, screeching the tires. The driver took a wide turn onto 7th Avenue, and Sergeant Letsch turned on his emergency lights to pull the car over. Officer Costagliola approached the driver, who was identified as Marcie. During the talk, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol and saw signs of impairment. Because of these signs, Marcie was asked to get out of the car and do some field sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). Marcie refused to cooperate with this test. The second test was the Walk and Turn. She failed to keep her heel touching her toe at each step and made improper turns. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Marcie couldn't lift her foot properly and put it down too soon, before finishing the test. Because of her reckless driving, the smell of alcohol, and her failure to do the tests properly, Officer Costagliola arrested Marcie for driving while intoxicated. Her car was towed and kept for 12 hours under John's Law. During the arrest, officers found an open alcoholic drink inside her vehicle. Officer Benites arrived to help with the search and took Marcie to the police station for processing. At the station, Marcie was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She initially agreed to take breath tests but then refused to cooperate during the Alcotest. This refusal led to extra charges. After processing, Marcie was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for a check-up. Officer Costagliola gave her citations for DUI, refusal to take a chemical test, reckless driving, crossing lane lines, not wearing a seatbelt, and having an open container. Court records show Marcie had been arrested for DWI before.
