Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Run From Police Per report- On Monday July 4, 2022 at approximately 1719 hours, I, Officer Lafave, was on duty in full uniform displaying my badge of office, and in a marked NMSP patrol vehicle within the County of Bernalillo, State of New Mexico. At this time, I was traveling north on Carlisle on top of I40 when I observed a vehicle with its right front tire on the raised concrete barrier. I pulled directly behind this vehicle, a silver Toyota passenger vehicle bearing NM registration, activated my emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop. The male driver and sole occupant was slow to bring this vehicle to a stop, stopping in the parking of Firestone. I exited my patrol car and as I approached the driver door, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, entering EB Menaul Blvd.. I got back into my unit and once on Menaul Blvd. I did not see the fleeing vehicle east of my location. I then entered the parking lot of Walgreens and saw the vehicle park in the southwest of this property then the male driver exits the driver door at flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the male, identified as Taylor (Defendant), was detained without further incident. Defendant was read his Miranda Rights and agreed to speak with me. Defendant stated he was scared and thought he had an active warrant for his arrest. 5-0 PATROL provides unbiased and authentic footage of incidents captured on body cams.
