On July 27 2023 Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office responded to calls of a stolen vehicle. The suspect attempted to evade capture. The suspect was later identified as John Coker. Mr. Coker abandoned the stolen car before hiding in a shed in a nearby residential neighborhood. He went on to carjack an innocent victim, forcing them to drive from the scene. Police blocked the road and the suspect jumped out of the car. What follows is the intense encounter with police ending in the shooting of the suspect. Mr. Coker survived but was in critical condition from his wounds. No police were injured during this encounter.
