SOME EVENTS ARE SHOWN OUT OF ORDER. Duck hunters in Walton County Florida were observed by FWC shooting a bird and throw it into the woods. The hunter that was observed doing this has had previous interactions with FWC. He was charged with taking dove out of season and wanton waste. He is innocent until proven guilty. Portions of the report are below: On the above date and time, I, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Officer Michael Graves, was patrolling for duck hunting activity and received a call from FWC Lt. Taylor Tison. He was in a concealed location observing an active duck hunt. He stated he saw two of the three subjects that were hunting coming into shore and when they got there it appeared one of them had shot at something in a tree. Tison stated he thought it was a dove but could not be sure. He said they had brought it up to the truck, rung it's neck, and then discarded of it in the woods near the vehicle they were in. Upon arriving on scene, Tison and I questioned the individuals and asked if there were any other birds they may have. They all stated no, and the defendant invited me to search his truck and run the K9 around it. I went back to the vehicle to retrieve K9 Timber. I brought him out of the vehicle using the start drill for area search. I had him sit near the area Tison had stated he saw the bird thrown. I then snapped his snap collar while giving the command "search," conducting an off-lead area search. Timber searched for a few seconds and then observed the hunters and ran down to greet them. I had to call him back and stated, "back to work." At this point Timber put his nose on the ground and began to search. I observed a distinct head snap, and he went straight to an area on the forest floor. I looked to see where he was going and observed the dove right as he got over it. When he was over the dove, he began to wag his tail hard and indicate very heavily. I walked up to it and confirmed it was a dove. The head had been rung off, but it was still warm. I asked which subject had shot it and the defendant, Boudreaux, stated he had. He stated that he did not want to tell us about it because he did not want any more tickets. Tison and I had issued this subject citations last year for waterfowl violations. I charged the subject with willful wanton waste of wildlife and FWC Officer H. Rockwell charged him for take of dove out of season, and some of the other subjects boating safety warnings. The encounter was captured on my agency issued body camera.
