Akron Police officers were aiding Car 21 at the scene of an accident on RT8-S near the Central Interchange when they were alerted by a passing motorist about a vehicle driving recklessly. The concerned motorist described the vehicle as being operated by an older white male who had traversed the construction zone to the north of their location. She reported seeing the vehicle dragging traffic barrels and driving against the median. Shortly after receiving this information, the officers observed the described vehicle heading south on RTS, dragging two traffic barrels and driving against the median. They promptly activated their overhead lights and sirens, signaling for the vehicle to halt. Despite their efforts, the driver, later identified as Terry Grimm, failed to stop and initiated a slow-speed pursuit southbound on I-77-S until exiting at E. Archwood Av. Grimm was subsequently apprehended without resistance. Upon arrest, Grimm displayed obvious signs of intoxication, emitting a strong odor of alcohol from his breath, exhibiting unsteadiness on his feet, slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes. Due to his involvement in the accident, AFD MED 13 was summoned to the scene. Grimm confessed to AFD personnel that he had been drinking throughout the day, consuming approximately nine drinks before driving. He also expressed a desire not to live, leading to his transport to Akron City Hospital, where he was involuntarily admitted. At the hospital, Grimm was formally read his Miranda Rights and provided with a copy of the BMV 2255 form at 19:58 hours, to which he acknowledged understanding and consented to provide a urine sample. He admitted to consuming alcohol while at work before leaving for home. Grimm was issued citations for OVI, Fail to Control, Hit Skip, Fail to Yield, Expired Plate, and Red Light violations, along with a summons for Willful Flee. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
