New details about the day officers Emily Breidenbach and Hunter Scheel were killed in the line of duty came through a report by Barron County District Attorney Brian Wright. The Barron County DA’s report details what happened on April 8th when a traffic stop turned fatal in the Village of Cameron. It also talks about the events lead up to the shooting. It concludes the officers were justified in shooting Glenn Perry. The DA’s report said Glenn Perry legally bought the AR-15 used in the shooting, also legally owning the handgun that was found on him. DA Wright said the day before the shooting, Perry’s father warned a Barron County Sheriff’s captain about Perry’s declining mental status. An alert went out to law enforcement to use extreme caution if contact was made with Perry. There was a bench warrant out for his arrest after failing to appear in court for missing child support mayments. The report stated officer Emily Breidenbach confirmed Perry had a warrant and knew of the warning from her supervisors. When she spotted Perry’s car, she called for back up before pulling him over on County Highway SS. After officer Hunter Scheel arrived, Breidenbach conducted the high risk traffic stop. Officer Breidenbach drew her gun and commanded Perry to step out of his car with his hands up. According to the report, Perry exited his car and began shooting at Breidenbach, killing her as a result. Perry then began shooting at Scheel and killed him as well. The report said Perry was hit in the leg, the bullet piercing through his femoral artery causing him to bleed out. The DA’s report concludes the heroism of the officers’ saved countless lives and will never be forgotten. DA Wright said in part: “The deaths of Officer Breidenbach and Officer Scheel are a stark reminder of how police officers put their lives on the line each and every day to protect us. The sworn duty of police to serve and protect should be revered whenever we remember the bravery, courage and sacrifice of Officer Breidenbach and Officer Scheel.” The Department of Justice also released their report that also concludes the officers were justified in their actions on April 8th.
