On March 30, 2024, Ohio State University Police Officers allegedly observed two vehicles driving recklessly. It was reported that one of the vehicles was accelerating rapidly, burning up its tires, and the other vehicle was following close behind. The two vehicles were known to travel together from prior police contacts. Police caught up with and stopped one of the vehicles, which was being driven by a 19-year-old woman. Officer Amoako claimed he could smell alcohol on the woman's breath, but she initially denied consuming alcohol. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, she led to her being placed under arrest. At the police station, she submitted to a breath test and the result was 0.018% BAC. Despite being under the legal limit, even for someone under 21 years of age, she was charged with Operating a Vehicle Impaired and Reckless Driving.
