On November 13, 2025, California Highway Patrol officers responded to a welfare check involving a pedestrian walking in and out of traffic along southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Clifford Kamph Road in Del Norte County, California. CHP Officers located a female pedestrian in the roadway who appeared confused and made incoherent statements. Officers escorted her to the shoulder of the Highway where they determined she met the criteria for a mental health hold after exhibiting erratic behavior and expressing self-harm concerns. She was placed into custody and transported to Sutter Coast Hospital for a 5150-hold evaluation. While at the Hospital, the individual became increasingly agitated and refused to comply with medical staff instructions. During attempts by a registered nurse to assist with changing into hospital clothing, the individual intentionally spit on the nurse. Officers immediately placed the individual back into custody. After being medically cleared, she was transported to the Del Norte County Jail and booked on the following charge: • PC 243(b) — Assault on a registered nurse California Highway Patrol officers involved: Officer D.
