On September 26, 2024, at approximately 11:00 PM, the Deptford Township Police Department in New Jersey received a call from a concerned motorist about a vehicle blocking traffic. The vehicle’s brake lights were on, and the driver appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel. Officer Anthony Gatto was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, he briefly spoke with the complainant and observed the driver still slumped over the wheel, with the vehicle seemingly in drive and the driver’s foot on the brakes. After some effort, the driver—who identified herself as a teacher—was awakened and removed from the vehicle for evaluation. Officer Gatto summoned EMS to rule out a possible medical emergency. Once medical personnel cleared the individual, a Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) investigation began, which is documented in this video. At the conclusion of the investigation, the driver was arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an open, nearly empty bottle of alcohol in the back seat. The driver was transported to the police station, where she refused to submit a breath sample. As of the date this video is being posted, the case remains pending in court, as the driver has failed to appear for her scheduled court date.
