On Thursday, October 6, 2022, officers with a Florida police department initiated a traffic stop on a grey Nissan because the registration tag was unreadable and in poor condition. During the interaction, officers observed behaviors that led them to conduct a further investigation. Following the initial encounter, officers determined there was probable cause for an arrest. As an officer began to place the driver in handcuffs, she suddenly announced she had a gun and reached into her jacket pocket, grasping the grip of a Glock 43 9mm semi-automatic handgun. She refused to release the weapon and made multiple attempts to insert her finger into the trigger guard. Officers were forced to use physical measures—including a distraction strike and taking her to the ground—to safely disarm her. The suspect was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.
