Athens-Clarke County officers respond to a single-vehicle crash involving a damaged Corvette and a dealer-tagged vehicle registered to Elizabeth Wilson. Witnesses report seeing a woman matching Wilson's description exit the driver's seat and flee on foot into the woods before officers arrive. A K-9 unit is called in, and officers spend an extended search trying to locate her, eventually warning her that she will be bitten if the dog finds her first. Wilson is found hiding in the woods hours later, having urinated on herself during the standoff, and crawls out at officers' direction. Despite her ID, Social Security card, and purse being recovered from the wrecked vehicle, she repeatedly denies driving, offering shifting accounts of who was behind the wheel. Officers note she appears intoxicated, and she admits to drinking before refusing field sobriety testing. After her refusal is treated as a DUI test refusal, a magistrate-signed search warrant is obtained and a law enforcement phlebotomist draws blood at the scene. Wilson was later convicted on all charges via guilty plea: D.U.I.
