The Baltimore Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 16, 2025, involving members of the Eastern District Action Team. According to police, Eastern District detectives were monitoring CCTV cameras when they observed suspected narcotics activity near North Charles Street and East 21st Street. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to be involved, but the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit. A request for BPD’s helicopter, Foxtrot, was made but was unavailable at the time. The vehicle entered a dead-end alley in the 500 block of West Lanvale Street, where three officers exited their patrol vehicle and approached on foot, issuing verbal commands for the occupants to show their hands. Police state the vehicle suddenly reversed toward one officer, crashed into a fence, and then accelerated again toward the officer. At that point, all three officers discharged their firearms. The passenger, identified as 61-year-old Andrew Brown, fell out of the vehicle as it drifted in reverse. The driver, 37-year-old Devin Thomas, exited the vehicle and complied with officers. Both individuals were taken into custody, and officers rendered aid to Thomas, who had been struck by gunfire, until medics arrived. Thomas was transported to a local hospital, treated, and later released. He was subsequently arrested and charged with assault and dangerous weapon with intent to injure. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of two firearms and suspected narcotics. The involved officers were identified as Officer Anthony Bennett, a five-year veteran; Officer Austin Gutridge, a 12-year veteran; and Officer Jacob Redding, a four-year veteran, all assigned to the Eastern District Action Team.
