On February 1, 2026, Athens Police Officer Doerr noticed a wrong-way driver on Court Street. He activated his emergency lights and the 22-year-old driver stopped her vehicle. Officer Doerr made contact with the woman, who admitted that she was coming from Broney's Alumni Grill, which is adjacent to the Ohio University campus. Officer Doerr asked the woman to exit her vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests, she was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). At the Athens police station, the woman provided 2 breath samples, with the lowest one registering 0.207% BAC. After receiving numerous citations, the woman was released to a sober friend.
