Airport police officers were initially dispatched to the main terminal near a restaurant to assist an intoxicated man who had fallen on an escalator. When medical personnel arrived to evaluate the individual, he became verbally abusive and began disrupting the flow of business. Officers attempted to detain the man, but he actively resisted by yelling, pulling away, and making verbal threats. The altercation turned physical when the suspect attempted to headbutt an officer while handcuffed, and he later kicked an officer in the right thigh while being escorted to a patrol vehicle. Once outside on the curbside, the combative suspect intentionally struck his own head against the rear pillar of a police vehicle, causing approximately $500 in damages to the frame. Officers ultimately secured the individual using a hobble restraint and placed him in the back of the transport unit. He was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief, and disorderly intoxication. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
